Rice University Events Podcasts
This podcast is devoted solely to the music of Kenneth David Stewart. He is a composer in the Houston area and a current graduate student at Rice University's Shepherd School of Music.
Composer Kenneth David Stewart, a native Texan, is presently pursuing a Master of Music Degree, in Composition, at Rice University’s Shepherd School of Music. Kenneth earned his BM in Violoncello Performance and Music Composition (Magna cum Laude) from The University of Arizona and also holds an AA in Music with Honors from Pima College. At Rice University, Kenneth is a student of Pierre Jalbert and Kurt Stallmann. His prior composition teachers have included Dan Asia, Samuel Adler, Dan Coleman, Larry Solomon, and Craig Walsh. As a cellist, he has studied with Gordon Epperson, Einar Holm, Brinton Smith and Mark Votapek. Kenneth’s compositions cover a diverse range of genres, from solo works and chamber music to symphonic compositions, choral works and electronic music. His orchestral works have been performed in concert by the Tucson Symphony Orchestra and his chamber works have been performed throughout the country including Arizona, Nevada, New York, Pennsylvania, Texas, Wisconsin and Berlin, Germany. Divergence, a work for mixed septet was recently recorded by the New York-based contemporary music ensemble Speculum Musicae. His composition for solo cello, Fallen Soldier, has been performed and featured on NPR, in the textbook Music: Its Role and Importance in Our Lives published by Glencoe/McGraw Hill, and at the Association of Music Personnel of Public Radio Conference.
