The School of Hard Knocks 40 filmed at the Century Casino in Calgary. Professional and Amateur fighters from across North America battle it out in the cage. Rodney Wallace vs. Clay Davidson, John Nguyen vs. Evan Anderson.
Hard Knocks: Fight Archive
Thirty years ago -- in the second year of our marriage -- my husband Gene and I (with our toddler Brooke in tow) took -- what turned out to be -- a glorious two month motor trip across Canada and Alaska -- starting in Quebec and winding up in British Columbia. I still smile as I think of Gene shaving in our motor home’s rear view mirror on a cool morning by a pristine lake in Yukon Territory. I still cherish the extraordinary kindness of a farmer in Saskatchewan who rescued us from a ditch when our vehicle slid down an embankment. I still fill up with awe as I recall the staggering beauty of the Canadian Rockies. I still feel the excitement of the chuck wagon races at the Calgary Stampede, still ooh at the kick of the kitsch in Dawson’s Creek, still savor the aroma of Montreal’s culinary delights, still cherish my familial connections to Nova Scotia, still marvel at the enduring culture and artistry of the Tlingit, still delight in the metropolitan flair of Ottawa, Canada’s capitol city.
Two years prior to this journey, Gene and I made our way -- in a Chevy Blazer -- across the United States stopping to applaud the precise timing of Old Faithful at Yellowstone, to laugh at the delightful antics of the black-tailed prairie dogs near Devil’s Tower in Wyoming, to estimate the miles to the next grain silo on the Great Plains, to marvel at all the wares (a jackalope?) on offer at Wall Drug . . . another wonderful adventure!ow we’ve auctioned our home and most the contents and are making the final preparations to hit the road again but -- this time -- in a truck with a 38-foot fifth wheel trailer and with Mac and Molly, our sibling pair of four-year-old Old English Sheepdogs, along for the ride. With no specific itinerary, we'll travel about the United States and Canada reporting from the well-traveled thoroughfares and lightly-traveled lanes on the joys and challenges of sharing the open road with two-hundred-plus-pounds of dog. We’ll give you a heads up on what's dog-friendly along the way and we'll seek out the usual and the unusual, the celebrated and the hidden. We’ll report on fascinating places and events, intriguing trends, creative artists, unusual hobbyists, hard workers, odd jobbers, cutting-edge technology and old-time pleasures. Listeners may expect the light-hearted and the serious, entertainment, information, insights, passion, a fresh eye . . . all depending on the subject matter for each particular show. So come along as we head off . . . On the Road with Mac and Molly!

Liam is the youngest of the Clancy Brothers. He displayed an artistic disposition at an early age, while growing up in Carrick-on-Suir, Co. Tipperary. While still in his teens, Liam explored writing and painting, though he was particularly drawn to the theatre. Before he was twenty years old, Liam had founded the local dramatic society and had produced, directed, set-directed, and starred in "The Playboy of the Western World". Liam had also performed at the renowned Gaiety Theatre in Dublin.
In 1955,American song-collector Diane Hamilton arrived at the Clancy home while on a song-collecting tour of Ireland. Liam joined her on the trip to Keady, Co. Armagh, where they met the singer Sarah Makem and her son, Tommy. Both Liam and Tommy emigrated to America the following year, pursuing careers in acting, both on stage and television.
Liam began singing with his brothers at fund-raising events for the Cherry Lane Theatre and the Guthrie benefits. The Clancy Brothers & Tommy Makem, began recording on Paddy Clancy's "Tradition" label in the late 50's. A record breaking 16 minute long performance on the Ed Sullivan Show launched the group into stardom. The quartet recorded numerous albums for Columbia Records and enjoyed great success during the 60's folk revival.
In 1973, Liam left the group to pursue a solo career. Hewas based in Calgary, where he became an established television performer. Liam had his own series, which won a Canadian Emmy Award. A few years later, Liam teamed up again with his old pal Tommy Makem. As Makem & Clancy, the two recorded several hits including "The Band Played Waltzing Matilda" and "The Dutchman". They toured and recorded together until the late 80's.
Liam joined his brothers and nephew Robbie O'Connell in 1990, though he still performed some shows with his Fairweather Band as well as with the Phil Coulter Orchestra. From 1996-1999, Liam toured with his son, Donal Clancy, and Robbie O'Connell. The group, known as Clancy, O'Connell, & Clancy, delighted audiences across North America and Europe. They released two highly praised albums together.
Liam currently performs as a solo act at pubs, theatres, and festivals across North America and Ireland. He is also completing work on his autobiography. Liam also runs his own recording studio at his estate in Ring, Co. Waterford.

A native South Floridian, Kristian Caro, has been an integral part of the Miami House scene for over a decade. Kristian began his career in the lounge and club scene in Delray Beach, Florida as the resident dj for the famously known DaDa Lounge and Saki Room. Bringing his mix of Tribal, Electro, Progressive and House, Kristian introduced South Palm Beach to a taste of Miami. This proved to be a move that quickly catapulted him as a powerful dj in the market.
In the Summer of 2006, Kristian was asked by Casa Casuarina (aka the Versace Mansion in Miami Beach) to become the resident dj for their ‘Sunday Decadent Pool Party’. The party was a huge success and went on to last for two years. Weekend after weekend, he mesmerized the crowd with his sounds accompanied by a different world instrument. Being of Cuban descent, Kristian possesses a passion for live percussion, piano and sax accompanying his music. On many occasions he has spun alongside four percussionists and even a Brazilian drum band. His unique blend of all forms of house music has captured the attention of many, including the world renowned Composer and Pianist Yanni.
In the Spring of 2007, Kristian became the resident dj for Miami’s hippest weekly party, ‘Social Fridays’, at the Sagamore Hotel. He was invited to spin numerous large events, from fashion shows for Banana Republic, Guess, Ralph Lauren and La Perla, to celebrity events for Casa Casuarina, Art Basel, Amstel Light, Heineken, Miami Fashion Week and Winter Music Conference.
During the Fall of 2008 Kristian was asked to open for the Alternative band ‘Bedouin Soundclash’ at the Toronto International Film Festival Kickoff Party in Toronto, Canada. That same season he was also invited to spin for another Kickoff Party, this time for the Monterey Grand Prix in Los Angeles, CA. Then, in February of 2009, Kristian had the honor of spinning at the Miami Beach Food and Wine Fest Party for Food Network Personality ‘Rachael Ray’.
Throughout 2010, Kristian continued to ingnite the international club scene, spinning across Canada from Calgary to Toronto, and then headed south to spin at ‘Bliss’ in St. Maarten, the largest nightclub in the Caribbean. He then had the pleasure of spinning multiple major sporting and corporate events, including three high profile Superbowl XLIV parties for ESPN, ESPN Radio, and Careerbuilder. This year also ushered in a prestigious moment when he opened up for singer/songwriter Jackson Brown at a celebrity fundraiser in the Hamptons hosted by OCEANA. Kristian has added to his repertoire several notable clubs across North America including Nikki MidTown in New York City, Elevate in Los Angeles, and Empire in Toronto, Canada.
Kristian is currently the resident dj at Area 31 located at the EPIC Hotel, Haven South Beach, the Gansevoort South, and the C-Level Rooftop Terrace at the Clevelander Hotel. He is also the chosen dj for the ASPCA Foundation and Peroni Beer in Miami,
